Teaching FNAR 712 Visual Epistemologies Seminar this Spring

The Visual Epistemologies seminar provides a historical survey on contemporary practices of “image-making” across a range of disciplines to allow students to have hands-on experience with new visualization techniques. The goal is to study different types of visual systems—from paintings to real-time visualizations, drone images, and computer games—that are used to create and disseminate knowledge that shape our social, cultural and political discourses.

Meeting time/place:
Fridays 10-1 PM
Addams Hall 111

"Designature" has arrived!

My new book "Designature: The Nature of Signatures in Art and Design" is published by Revolver Publishing (Berlin). The monograph covers the past six years of my research and includes a foreword by Krzysztof Wodiczko and an afterword by Judith Donath. I am indebted to their contributions. The book will be available in the US early 2017 and currently be purchased directly from Revolver.

Microbial Simit Diet at the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial

I will be participating at the 3rd Istanbul Design Biennial "Are We Human" with a new piece. For every day of the Biennial, there will be a new "simit" (a traditional Turkish baked good) with microbial ingredients designed by the Microbial Design Studio. More info on the project can be found here:

Indexical Design Symposium

I am very pleased to chair the panel on the Embodiment of Meaning Across Scales at the Indexical Design Symposium organized by Dietmar Offenhuber at the Northeastern University. The event is definitely one of the most comprehensive gathering of artists, designers, scientists, and scholars who think deeply on the materiality of data and alternative modes of experiencing information.
